I don't know if this is an "Ahh come on" moment or more of an "Ooo da*n" situation. You decide.
Karrine Steffans has become synonymous with the term "vixen" due to her 2005 tell-all autobiography and best-selling novel, "Confessions of a Video Vixen." Steffans has catapulted to the leads of mainstream entertainment, from Tyra to Oprah - everyone wanting a voyeuristic look into the life she lived as a video actress and her scandalous rendezvous with various celebs. Several derogatory terms have been used to describe Steffans, but what is undeniable is her effort to remove the "video vixen" label and press forward as a devoted mother, entrepreneur and novelist.
Below is post that can be seen on her site (Karrine) where she's decided enough is enough. I don't think it's ever too late to change your life, but for women, when you are labeled...it's hard to erase the brand. We live in a world of double standards, and for Steffans, her life as "superhead" may be difficult to forget considering she's made a successful career out of blowing the whistle on the celebrity men with which she's been intimate.
Don't get me wrong. This sister is articulate and smart and I wish her all the best, but I hate to see that her reputation still follows her.
WOW! Yeah scum buckets do need to be "thrown under the bus!" However, I'm conflicted with Karrine. Since her "self-actualized" debuts on Oprah, Starting Over and other shows I've seen/heard her brag about her sexual escapades and demand that she be called her alias, "Superhead."
ReplyDeleteAll the videos and radio shows are too much! You gotta listen to her interview with Jaimie Fox it is about an hour long and it is raunchy as h#ll! I mean, I curse, but DAYUM...It's hard to believe that she doesn't know how to curse folks out no more. HA! She called Jaimie eveything but the child of God:-)
Truth is...You are a sum of your actions. If you want to change who you are you must change your actions. God willing, she'll align her intention, words and actions to become who she desires to be. But for now, I think she's trying to get her 20 minutes of fame back.

all she's going for is hype. and that's what she's getting. if she did a "change of heart, change of life" show on Oprah, and stuck with a new and consistent respectable life-style, i might rate her with some dignity.
ReplyDeletebut until then, it's easy to see, she's selling out to TRY to maintain significant media exposure.
clearly, no one put a gun to her head to go to Jermaine O'neal's room. she went there so she could make a YouTube video.
correct me if i'm wrong, i will listen to a logical opinion.

Thanks so much for the comments!! I agree with you both. I've listened to the interview Sal spoke of and Karrine was a mess! She had the foulest mouth...
ReplyDeleteMy friend "Chatty Girl" on Facebook had this to say:
ReplyDeleteKarrine is a really, really smart girl and i am not saying that cause we have the same birthday but real talk. BOO TO HER! You know why most of her friends are men because she probably wasn't a good friend to her female friends....Maybe too judgmental. but the image and rep she has, she did a good job in perpetrating it. and her throw him under the bus...took her six minutes to dish her dirt. woowee.....i feel the double standard but me thinks we should reserve that for women we know mean well and grow from it. K.S. is um an interesting case in women's studies. she knew what she was in potential for going in a hotel room and...i don't know. i see both sides of the coin but if she really wanted to lay low she'd disappear...but she cant afford that.....i hope i don't seem judgmental she is mad frustrating. lets see what she says in July 09 when she goes on her next book tour.
but seriously, as a black women and i think this is the case for black women as well....how can you judge the woman without seeing some one that you know and if you are sexually active...how can you not see the same possibility of being labeled as her but on a different scale.
xoxo.
